Required Reading: Rule #1, by Phil Town

For Moat Investors like you and I who aspire to be amateur Warren Buffets and Benjamin Grahams, Phil Town’s book Rule #1 is the best starting place I can imagine. It’s like having a personal tutor lean over your shoulder and whisper secret advice that no one ever told you — about how to make millions. I have personally adapted my investing style quite a bit based on the simple approach outlined in this book. I’m convinced that anyone can consistently beat both the market and your mutual funds by following the advice in Moat Investor and this book is a great introduction to some basic techniques.

Phil Town was a river guide living on $4,000 a month when he saved a wealthy investor — and Warren Buffett disciple — from death in the white water. This investor taught him to invest, value-style like Buffet, and in five years Town turned his $4,000 a year into $1 million. Not too shabby.

Using plain language and with careful explanations of any of the jargon you might need to know, this book is perfect for any of you non-finance types. You don’t need an MBA, CPA or other background to invest. You just need to know how to find and evaluate value. Great for Moat Investor.
